So I’ve been doing Slimming World for a whole week now and I got my weigh in results last night. But before I tell you what the result was. Let me first talk about the ‘Lifestyle change’.
Slimming World Rules
Essentially this program is created in such a way that you avoid processed carbs and any most fats. Which, given my previous knowledge, should not necessarily make you slimmer. However, trying the diet first hand, I now understand that it is designed to encourage participants to eat healthy foods that will help you feel fuller, for longer. It’s great for me because it means I can have as much succulent chicken as I want, provided I cook it without oils.
Now let’s talk about syns. Because I’m a male, it means I am entitled to eat 20 syns a day, however it would be better if I try to keep my total daily syns low. Right now I’m averaging about 10 because I’m substituting chocolate bars (typically 12 ½ syns) for options hot chocolate (2 syns per serving) which is a far healthier choice. I also go over on syns because of things like protein shakes etc.
How it’s affected my mood
Well, here’s the kicker. I feel tired but I don’t feel exhausted. More than anything, I think my body is actually regulating my hormones better so that when I’m tired, I actually feel tired instead of letting me get to the exhausted stage and then telling me I’m super tired. Also, I feel like my performance in the gym has improved and my mood, in general, is a lot clearer than it has been in the past.
Is it a Diet?
Let’s get this straight, it definitely is a diet. The term lifestyle change is just a fancy way of dressing it up. In my eyes, if you were to go through a lifestyle change, you would learn everything you need to know about nutrition and exercise and then go and practice it every day for the rest of your life. So yes, it is a diet, there are strict rules you must adhere to, to get the best results.
It is definitely one of the most flexible diets I have ever been on that genuinely works. It is not just a fad diet.
Slimming World Result?
It’s the end of week one and I’ve got to say I am extremely impressed! I would actually recommend this diet to anybody trying to lose weight. I have managed to drop a rather outstanding 3½lbs. But, my girlfriend who decided we should both join lost an unbelievable 7½lbs in her first week! I must say I’m extremely proud of her. I don’t know how she did it but she has blown us all away with that result!
They have told us however, you always lose the most in the first week. Although, I think if we aim for 2lb a week on this, we’ll be at our target weight in no time. Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep piling on muscle too!
