Food preparation can be a pretty daunting task. It requires discipline and determination. But, how many of us are actually already practising the food prep routine?
You may or may not be surprised to find out many of us are already preparing food for the next day at work. So, if you are already preparing food for one day, why not get a bigger pan and prep your food for the week, or half of the week instead? It may take a large chunk of your time on the day of prep, but you’ll save loads of time over the course of the week.
So what’s the deal here, why don’t we do it more often? I personally think (and I could be wrong!) that we are simply too lazy or too afraid to commit to eating a strict diet.
Food prep for goals
As with everything, there are two sides of a coin to look at here. Arguably a third side to consider as well: weight loss, muscle growth, and maintenance.
We’ll take a look into these considerations a little more in a moment. But, first consider what you want to achieve and why; try to plan some goals: short term, medium term and long term.
Now that you have considered your goals, it’s time to figure out how often you want to eat and why. Do you want to eat more regularly with smaller portions or do you work better with 3 larger portions? Personally, I prefer 4 meals a day, but that’s just me.
Now we have some food for thought (Like what I did there, you’re getting hungry now aren’t you?). Let’s find out why it is so important for the aforementioned goals.
The importance of food prep
It’s important because you never truly know how many calories are in the meal that you’ve just eaten from that meal deal. Sure, you can use calorie trackers and what have you, but unfortunately, they are rarely accurate. Another thing to consider is how the food was prepared – was it fried or was it grilled?
How are these factors going to affect your progress? Is it really as healthy as the manufacturer says it is? I don’t like scaring people but sometimes we have to think about foods like we think about diet coke. it may contain fewer calories but it may be harming our bodies too. Remember, if you cook something yourself, you know exactly what is going into it.
Don’t forget, you can save yourself loads of time by preparing your own food too! I know myself, I spend about 2 hours on a Sunday preparing food for the whole week and that usually consists of two different meals. You can gain some little more variety by adding different meals into it or adding snacks into your diet. However, you do it, make a plan and stick to it. As each day goes by, you’ll be one step closer to your goal!
