Some of you may remember one of my first blog posts about Walking to Work. Well, now I want to discuss how it can be a great activity for burning fat, without you even realising it.
I have actually adopted this method again because it helps me burn so many more calories! If I drive to work and go to the gym, I usually burn about 2,800 calories. If I walk to work and go to the gym, I usually burn about 3,600 in the day. That’s an extra 800 calories per day by walking for 1½ hours.
Now, I’m no expert on this but from what my Fitbit Surge tells me, walking causes the body go into ‘fat burning mode’. It’s called fat burning mode because the body needs to get its energy from somewhere and at a certain heart rate level, the body will burn fat as its preferred source of energy.
I have been watching the videos of a guy called Elliott Hulse or, some of you may have seen him called ‘Yo Elliott’ on YouTube. Whenever anybody asks him how to lose weight, he preaches the benefits of walking. It’s because walking is so underrated and everybody forgets that it is a very simple form of exercise.
Anyway, why else is walking good for you? It gets you out in the fresh air, it lets you think. I’d go as far to say that it lets your mind breath. Now if that doesn’t sound like the kind of thing your body needs, I don’t know what does.
