5 Best Exercises to Lose Weight

Want to know the best exercises to lose weight?

There are many exercises that could help you lose weight, some are a waste of time; so what are the best exercises to lose weight?

Things to consider about weight loss

Are you bothered about looking toned and/or muscular? If you are, you should probably read my other article – Low Repetition Strength Training.

If you are not bothered about muscle, however, and you just want to lose that fat. Then look no further. Here I list the 5 best exercises I know, that will help you lose weight even faster.

1. Running

Running has been one of those staple exercises for anybody trying to lose weight for a long period of time now. We’re probably talking hundreds if not thousands of years! However, because of the recent discovery¬†of high-intensity interval training (HIIT – we’ll talk about this later); many people seem to dismiss it as an old exercise routine. What people forget is that it is a great way of building your stamina and increasing your oxygen intake which would lead to a lower resting heart rate – which has many of its own benefits.

The best thing about running is that it’s completely free and you can do it whenever and wherever.

2. Swimming

Swimming is a great all over body workout which will help you burn those calories and shift those stubborn pounds! For those of you that are a little bothered about keeping some muscle, this could be the choice for you! It can be hard at first, but give it a few weeks and you’ll be swimming like a pro.

Swimming is excellent for people wanting to increase upper body strength too, the only problem is you’d have to first locate a swimming pool because not all gyms have one.

3. Walking

Walking is an awesome way to exercise and it is extremely underrated because it isn’t as fun and exciting as some other methods of exercise. Because it is such a simple way to exercise anybody can do it and it is a great starting point for people that aren’t fit enough to withhold a run for more than 10 minutes.

I have written an in-depth article about this as I am extremely passionate about getting people walking more often; despite the fact that I drive too! You can read it here.

4. HIIT Workouts

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts are great for anybody looking to simply tone their muscles and lose weight at the same time. They can also be extremely fun to do – which I never thought I’d say! This is because you are essentially ‘dancing’ to the music – of course, you’re not actually dancing, your lifting weights and jumping etc.

The best thing about HIIT workouts is that they are extremely fun and rewarding – they also probably burn more calories than the rest of the exercises listed here.

5. Team sports

Now we all know that any kind of physical activity will help us shift the pounds. The same goes for team sports but, it’s a lot more enjoyable than the rest. The only quibble I have with team sports is that it can be extremely hard to track calorie expenditure without wearing an activity band of some sort.

The best thing about team sports, however, is that you often don’t realise how much you are burning because you are enjoying yourself too much. I remember I went to play tennis with my dad for the first time in years and he wanted to play for 90 minutes. He was happy for the 90 minutes, until the next day when he felt like he couldn’t move!
